“An even split feels simplest, but it also feels like whoever takes the small room is quietly subsidizing”

How it works

Three steps from an argument to an answer.

  1. Enter the rent and the rooms

The total rent, the bills, the size of the whole flat and of each bedroom, in square metres or square feet.

  2. Read the split, line by line

Bedrooms pay £30.00 per m² of their own floor. The kitchen, living room and bathroom are shared equally, and so are the bills.

  3. Send one link to the chat

The link holds every number. Flatmates open it with no account, and it still opens offline after the first visit.

Fair is not the same as even. Fair is a split that every flatmate can check.

Questions

Before you send the link

Do my flatmates need an account?

No. The link holds every number, so anyone can open it in the chat. Only the flatmate who wants to save the flat and copy it each month signs in.

How is the split worked out?

Each bedroom pays for its own floor space at one price per square metre. The rooms you share, like the kitchen and the bathroom, are split equally, and so are the bills. The split shows each of these lines.

One room has its own bathroom. What do we do?

Add the size of that bathroom to the room. That flatmate then pays for the bathroom alone instead of sharing its cost.

Do you hold or move our rent money?

No. Rent split only does the sums. You pay your landlord the way you do now.

What do you store about our flat?

A split you do not save stays on your phone and in the link. The part of a link after the # never reaches our server. A saved flat is stored in your account until you delete it.

What does Pro cost?

A Pro pass is £3.00 for 30 days, paid once through Bachs. It does not renew, so there is nothing to cancel.

Does it work in square feet?

Yes. Switch the unit to sq ft in the calculator. The split is the same either way.
